Our History

Founded by Albert Huber in 1909, the law firm currently known as Katz, Huntoon & Fieweger, PC has been a continuous part of the Quad Cities landscape for more than a century.

By the time Isador Katz, the patriarch namesake of the firm, became a member in 1931, the firm had already become a cornerstone of the local legal fraternity. Our attorneys were much-respected barristers and welcome participants in the courtrooms that were housed in the now-historic Rock Island County Courthouse. Mr. Katz added to the firm’s stalwart reputation by distinguishing himself as one of the area’s preeminent trial attorneys for more than six decades. Isador Katz died in 1996.

Putting clients and community first for 100 years

In 1999, the Katz firm’s litigation attorneys merged with Huntoon & Nowinski’s business and real estate firm to offer clients an even broader spectrum of experience.

Throughout the years, the firm has added attorneys whose consummate skill, sterling reputations, and tireless community service have placed them at the forefront of their profession and their community. Among the more prominent members of the firm were:

  • Charles “CC” McAndrews, who was a member of the Illinois Industrial Commission for Workers’ Compensation
  • John M. Telleen, who, after acting as a managing partner of the firm for many years, became a Circuit Judge of the Fourteenth Judicial District
  • H. Karl Huntoon, long time partner with the firm, died in 2010
  • Peter C. Fieweger, a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, retired from our firm in January 2012.

Leading lawyers for the 21st century

Today’s firm members continue to earn acclaim for themselves and for the firm. Two of our attorneys—Martin H. Katz and Frank R. Edwards—have each earned the highest approval rating from a survey of fellow attorneys in the Quad City area.

Martin Katz is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers—an invitation-only organization whose membership includes the country’s most respected trial lawyers.  Frank Nowinski and H. Karl Huntoon were named Leading Lawyers in their respective fields in 2009.

As our firm has grown, so has its range. Our service area includes the Iowa and Illinois Quad Cities and surrounding jurisdictions. We also continue to emphasize the importance of information, training, and technology as critical tools. In the 21st century, Katz, Huntoon & Fieweger, PC is committed to providing clients with the highest quality legal services available anywhere.

Our Rock Island County injury, business and general practice attorneys operate in a wide range of practice areas, including business law, real estate, wills and estate planning, bankruptcy, family law, trials and appeals, personal injury, workers compensation, employment law, criminal and traffic law, and medical malpractice.
